Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPTu)
The addition of a geophone in the piezocone body enables the collection of seismic wave data, and the calculation of shear and compressional wave velocities during the cone penetration test. All CPT Inc. piezocones contain on-board seismic wave measurement equipment meaning any hole can become a seismic hole. These are not specialty cones – they are the standard.
For SCPTu testing, the selected energy source depends on field conditions and the specific data which is to be collected for a project. Our state-of-the-art 30-ton CPT truck utilizes an automatic shear wave generator, allowing rapid stacking of highly-repeatable waveforms to increase signal to poise ration and greatly minimize uncertainly of Vs determination.
